Just mentioning cockroaches can send shivers down the spine of some people. In case of an invasion, these small invasive and repugnant creatures are difficult to eradicate without traps or anti-cockroach chemical products (disinfection syringe with anti-cockroach gel, spray aerosol, etc.). They are the kings of hide-and-seek and end up crawling everywhere in your home (seeing one cockroach is equivalent to a hundred hidden ones… a horror). Moreover, these little pests have the annoying tendency to reproduce at a phenomenal speed. How to fight against cockroaches? We tell you everything! To get rid of cockroaches in the house, we have not only tips but also a very effective mixture that will kill these unwanted guests quickly. Your cupboards will have nothing to fear anymore!
Some tips against cockroaches to start:
Take out the trash. Also, store food in airtight containers (jars or airtight boxes) and avoid leaving food uncovered. This is essential to get rid of cockroaches!
Keep your house clean and free of crumbs and food residues. Clean the kitchen thoroughly to not leave any crumbs or residues for cockroaches. The entire house should be clean from floor to ceiling, including carpets and sofa cushions (which can hide some crumbs). Vacuum regularly and do not leave dirty dishes lying around.
Find their hiding spots to get rid of them, and identify the corners where these pesky insects are most abundant. Fix any water leaks under sinks and pipes, and eliminate stagnant water. These attract these creatures that need water to survive. Also, seal and repair cracks, skirting boards, holes, and fissures in the walls through which they could enter.
Invite your neighbors to do the same. If you have this problem, they surely have it too. Everyone needs to address this. Otherwise, the infestation of pests will continue to return to homes!
The recipe for the mixture that eradicates cockroaches
What you need:
- Boric acid
- Condensed milk
- Gloves to protect your hands during the mixture handling
The steps:
1) Mix 30g of boric acid with a small dose of condensed milk in a bowl.
2) Aim for a homogeneous paste. So if it’s too liquid, add more boric acid, and if it’s crumbly, add a little more milk.
3) Between your hands, form small pea-sized balls.
4) You can place these balls in bottle caps or on the floor or walls (knowing that they are difficult to remove once dried).
5) Place everything in the known frequented places you have identified. Do not put them in places where you haven’t seen cockroaches. The mixture takes effect in 24 hours and remains effective for 6 to 8 months.
Make sure your pets and children do not have access to the balls.
Other easy natural tips against cockroaches
In addition, there are many other ways to naturally eliminate these pesky crawling insects.
Powders against these repugnant pests
You can, for example, also sprinkle diatomaceous earth on the passage areas. It is a natural powder composed of fossilized diatom remains. It is abrasive to their exoskeleton and dehydrates them, thus killing them. Alternatively, you can mix equal parts of baking soda and sugar powder. Place this mixture in small containers or sprinkle it in the areas frequented by cockroaches. Indeed, sugar attracts cockroaches and baking soda kills them.
Essential oils against cockroaches
Cockroaches hate the smell of lavender. So, mix a few drops of lavender essential oil with water in a spray bottle and spray the infested areas. Eucalyptus essential oil is also a natural repellent for cockroaches. Use it in the same way as lavender. Finally, you can do the same with peppermint essential oil, especially around entrances and dark corners.
A homemade cockroach trap
Take a glass jar with a narrow neck and coat the inside rim with Vaseline. Place bait such as a piece of bread soaked in beer or sugar at the bottom of the jar. Then, wrap the outside of the container with a cloth or adhesive tape with the sticky side outward to help these little creatures climb. Cockroaches can thus enter but cannot escape due to the vaseline.
Natural repellents to place in passage areas
Cockroaches hate the smell of bay leaves. So, place bay leaves in cupboards, drawers, and other places where they could hide. Moreover, use white vinegar or lemon juice to clean surfaces in your kitchen and floors. Their strong smell repels cockroaches and many other undesirables (flies, mosquitoes, gnats, etc.). Finally, place slices of fresh cucumber in infested areas. Indeed, cockroaches do not like the smell of cucumbers.
By using these natural tips, you can reduce the presence of cockroaches in your home without resorting to harmful chemicals.
