During winter, some people tend to slack off on certain elements like hair removal or foot care. Indeed, one may wonder why it is important to take care of them when it’s cold and they are hidden under thick socks and boots. Well, you will understand that maintaining this part of the body even in winter is important when you look for solutions against dry feet and accumulated calluses when it’s time to bring out the flip flops, sandals, and high heels! Because yes, it’s not once summer is here that you should expect to repair the damage… Here is a foot care technique to make your feet soft again using simple baking soda.
And think about it: thanks to baking soda, it is always more pleasant to have soft feet when you cuddle up with your partner to warm them up once the cold weather returns 😉!
What you need:
- 5 tablespoons of baking soda (or sodium bicarbonate)
- Your shower gel
- A few drops of essential oil (here we recommend lavender essential oil, eucalyptus, peppermint, lemon or sweet orange)
- A top-notch hydrating cream
- Optional: brush or pumice stone
Steps:
1) Before starting, soak your feet in a basin of warm water for 5 minutes. The foot bath before the care will effectively soften the skin.
2) Make a mixture of the three ingredients by putting the baking soda in a bowl, adding a little shower gel gradually to create a granular paste. Finish with a few drops of essential oil.
3) Rub and massage your feet with this mixture to eliminate dead skin even better than commercial scrubs. If the skin is really tough, use an exfoliating brush or pumice stone on thick calluses and cracks. However, do it gently to avoid injuring your heels.
4) Rinse and apply a nourishing repairing cream to your beautiful feet. Shea butter or vegetable oils like argan oil, coconut oil or sweet almond oil could also do the trick. It’s time to treat yourself to a good foot massage to get rid of the dryness and calluses of tired feet! After that, your feet will be as soft as after a pedicure!
How often to use this baking soda treatment for soft feet?
Don’t hesitate to do this treatment once a week. Baking soda is great for exfoliating very dry, damaged, and rough heels, but also for combating bad odors. Like the softening vinegar scrub, it will also promote the healing of infections, athlete’s foot, or other foot issues. To do this, apply it well on the sole of the foot and between the toes and use tea tree essential oil in the treatment. Why miss out if it can save you a visit to the podiatrist?
