Here are 4 very simple and effective recipes to make a natural detangler specifically for mermaid hair.

This treatment is moisturizing and respects the hair fiber as well as the scalp. It helps detangle knots without weighing down the hair. It is therefore perfect for all hair types, especially for taking care of fine or normal hair that gets greasy quickly.

To prepare it, mix 1 part oat flakes with 5 parts water in a container. Then let it sit for at least 30 minutes until the water becomes milky. If possible, let your water infuse longer (up to overnight). Remember to stir regularly to facilitate this process before straining through a fine cloth or cheesecloth and transferring it to a spray bottle. The product will keep for about a week in the fridge.

2) The natural detangler with apple cider vinegar

Like the previous one, this hair care recipe is suitable for all hair types. The main ingredient, apple cider vinegar, is an excellent natural detangler that boosts hair shine. It is also an excellent anti-dandruff remedy. Use 100 ml of apple cider vinegar for 400 ml of cold water in a spray bottle.

For fragrance, you can use essential oils. Simply choose an essential oil that suits your hair type. A few drops of ylang-ylang or geranium will delight dry and damaged hair. And for added shine, opt for lemongrass oil. You can also add a scent to your product by infusing herbs (thyme, rosemary, lavender…) or citrus peels in the vinegar for two weeks before adding water.

3) The natural detangler for curly hair

Curly hair and kinky hair often have specific needs. This treatment will help détangle, nourish, and repair without weighing down or breaking the curls. To do this, gather the ingredients: mango butter (45 g), coconut oil or jojoba oil (20 ml), buriti oil (20 ml), and piqui oil (10 ml). Then melt the butter and coconut oil in a double boiler. Off the heat, in a bowl, incorporate the other oils. Freeze your preparation and mix regularly. The idea is to obtain a smooth and homogeneous paste before putting it in a jar. Your nourishing anti-knot treatment that will add shine is ready!

After shampooing, hair is often a tangled mess. To detangle wet hair, this leave-in or rinse-out treatment is perfect. It combines 90 ml of aloe vera gel, 1 tablespoon of avocado oil, and 12 drops of ylang-ylang or rosemary essential oil. This will give you about 100 ml of product (around 6 uses). When applying this cream to your wet hair, make sure to go from roots to ends, smoothing each strand with your fingers. After 10 minutes of exposure, use a comb or a special brush to style your hair without pulling on it. Rinse if desired, and let your hair air dry or use a hairdryer on a cool setting.

You can use this aloe vera recipe as inspiration to make a detangling treatment for daily use. Just adjust the formula a bit by adding a little water.

In addition to natural detangling, how can you prevent knots from forming?

To avoid hair knots, be sure to use appropriate treatments. After each shampoo, always apply a conditioner to detangle and soften the hair. Also, use hydrating and nourishing masks once a week to keep your hair soft and supple. Additionally, apply a few drops of hair oil (argan oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil, etc.) to the lengths and ends to reduce knots and add shine.

And most importantly, avoid vigorously rubbing your hair with a towel during drying. This causes tangling and damage! Gently pat your hair to remove excess water. If possible, let your hair air dry or use a hairdryer on a low, cool setting. We also recommend using a cotton t-shirt or a microfiber towel for a gentler and hair-friendly drying experience.

Good brushing techniques and preventive hairstyles

For gentle detangling, take your time and use a wide-tooth comb or detangling brush. Also, start from the ends and work your way up to the roots gently. This helps avoid pulling knots along the entire length, preventing breakage and damage to the hair. And most importantly, brush your hair regularly to prevent knots, especially before washing. In addition, adopt protective hairstyles! Wear your hair in a braid, bun, or loose ponytail to avoid friction and knot formation. At night, loosely braid your hair and use a satin or silk pillowcase to reduce friction while sleeping. You can also wear a satin nightcap.

Additional tips to reduce the need for natural detangler

A regular haircut can help maintain healthy hair that is less prone to tangling. Trim your hair every six to eight weeks to prevent split ends that can contribute to knot formation. Additionally, drink plenty of water to keep your hair hydrated from the inside out. Lastly, consume foods rich in essential vitamins and minerals for healthy hair (vitamins A, C, E, biotin, and zinc). This will keep your hair healthy, reducing knots regardless of your hair type.
