It is surprising to note that contrary to popular belief, teenagers are not the only ones who have imperfections. Older faces can also mimic these. There are several culprits: genetics, environment, diet, hormones… And if you clicked on the article link in a hurry, maybe it’s because you are one of those who have tried everything against pimples (creams, lotions, acne masks…), but are starting to believe that nothing works! Like us, you may have also come to the conclusion that abrasive products sold in stores do more harm than good.
That’s why grandma offers you acne mask recipes that you might like without “killing” your skin. And if you are put off by homemade recipes because you never have the ingredients, then this selection will surely help you find what you need with what you have in your cupboards!
Some acne masks to absolutely know about:
1) The activated charcoal mask
For this mask excellent for pimples and enlarged pores, mix a heaping teaspoon of activated charcoal powder with a few drops of lavender essential oil and black seed oil. Make a paste by adding apple cider vinegar. Apply this to your skin and leave it on until it dries. Rinse with warm water. It’s a real treat for combination and oily skin, and helps regulate excess sebum in the latter. Nevertheless, all skin types can appreciate it!
2) Avocado and honey
Mash a quarter of an avocado and add a good tablespoon of organic honey (use manuka honey if you have it, it is more purifying). Apply to your skin with a 15-minute exposure time. Rinse first with warm water to make the texture easier to rinse off and softer, then finish with cold water. Thanks to this hydrating and treating mask, those pesky little spots on dry or normal skin will quickly be forgotten. Sensitive skin prone to breakouts also loves it!
3) The garlic mask that scares away pimples (and vampires)
We used it in ancient Egypt to cook up a love potion that makes you more attractive. Today, our view of garlic is quite different… and that’s a shame! It has many health benefits, but also beauty benefits if not used alone. To combat acne outbreaks, try the natural garlic mask for acne-prone skin! Crush 2 or 3 garlic cloves and make a paste with aloe vera gel. Let it “infuse” for 10 minutes then use a cotton pad to apply the mixture to problematic areas. After 10 minutes, rinse with cold water.
4) The face mask with honey and aspirin
Crush 2 or 3 aspirin tablets and mix with a tablespoon of water. Then add a teaspoon of raw honey and stir. Add a little more honey if it seems too thick. Apply to the skin for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water. This should also help reduce the small redness that accompanies pimples.
5) The yogurt and cucumber mask
On acne-prone skin, this mask is great against excess sebum and skin problems associated with impurities, as well as for tightening enlarged pores. The skin’s texture becomes better in every way. Peel a cucumber and cut it into pieces. Put it in a blender with 120g of plain yogurt (or Greek yogurt) and a teaspoon of powdered milk if you have it. Blend until smooth. Apply to the skin and leave on for 15 minutes before rinsing with warm water.
